Digital Marketing For the Premium Electric Bike Brand

Electric Bikes Brand Case Study - Digital Marketing Case Study

Client Overview

Client: Exelmoto
Founder: Akshai Varde
Backed By: Suniel Shetty, KL Rahul, Ahan Shetty
Industry: Electric Mobility (EV / E-Bikes)
Website: Exelmoto.com

Exelmoto is a new-age electric bike startup led by automotive designer Akshai Varde, known for crafting performance-driven, sustainable electric motorcycles. Supported by renowned celebrities, the brand aims to lead India’s e-mobility revolution.

The Challenge

When Exelmoto approached DM Yarana, they were a newly launched startup facing critical digital visibility challenges. Despite their strong brand and celebrity backing, their online presence was almost invisible.

Key Issues Identified

  1. GMB Verification Failures
The client’s Google My Business (GMB) profile verification failed twice during video verification. Without a verified GMB, the store wasn’t appearing on Google Maps, impacting local visibility and credibility.
  2. Website Visibility and Indexing Problems

    • The site was built on Shopify directly on the main domain with a “no-index” tag during development.
    • Google crawled the unfinished site multiple times, reducing trust and authority.
    • Search engines flagged the domain as low-value due to repeated incomplete crawls.
  3. Countdown Page Confusion
Just before launch (June 28, 2025), a countdown page replaced the main site, causing Google to de-index main pages and further confusing search engines.
  4. Severe Speed and Performance Issues
    • The website had a preloader that delayed content loading by 30 seconds, while Googlebot only waits ~3 seconds to crawl.
    • The hero section contained 5 heavy slider images and a large video of Suniel Shetty—all loading simultaneously.
    • A GIF-based parallax section of bike assembly loaded from the hero section, severely increasing LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) times.
    • Oversized images were rendered with CSS shrinkage, harming page experience.

  5. Technical SEO and Structural Issues
    • Improper SSL and redirection setup (HTTP, HTTPS, WWW conflicts).
    • Missing schema markup and meta data.
    • Pages lacked internal linking and structured content.
    • Most important pages were not indexed.
    • Social links pointed to incorrect (non-secure) URLs.

Our Approach

At DM Yarana, we focused on a complete technical and strategic revival of Exelmoto’s digital ecosystem—starting from the ground up.

1. GMB Verification & Local Presence

  • Successfully verified the Google My Business listing after two failed attempts.
  • Coordinated a live call with Google Support, showcased the actual showroom, and achieved verification.
  • Created over 200+ quality citations on platforms like Sulekha, Justdial, and other trusted directories to boost NAP (Name, Address, Phone) consistency and local trust.

2. Website Optimization & SEO Fixes

  • Removed preloader to improve crawlability and reduce load time.
  • Optimized hero section:
    • Moved Suniel Shetty’s video to a lower section for faster initial rendering.
    • Replaced 5 heavy images with a single optimized banner.
    • Converted all images to WebP format.
  • Fixed parallax GIF issue: Replaced with an MP4 video in a dedicated section—LCP improved dramatically from 73 to 15.
  • Reduced overall load time and improved user experience significantly.

3. Technical SEO Enhancements

  • Resolved HTTP / HTTPS / WWW and 301 redirection conflicts.
  • Implemented SSL correctly to ensure all pages load securely under https://exelmoto.com.
  • Fixed Google Search Console (GSC) URL and indexing errors.
  • Added structured schema markup to help Google understand business and product data.
  • Optimized meta titles and descriptions to increase CTR for branded searches.

4. Content & Indexing Strategy

  • Added brand-focused content and FAQ sections targeting “Exelmoto,” “electric bike,” and “e-mobility” keywords.
  • Strategically internally linked all main pages to strengthen site structure and crawl depth.
  • Created an SEO-first brand story for the website to establish a narrative around innovation, technology, and sustainability.
  • Ensured pages were fully indexed with improved content flow and on-page optimization.

5. Off-Page SEO & Authority Building

  • Built high-authority backlinks and citations on relevant EV and automotive directories.
  • Ensured the brand was mentioned on top PR sites and industry directories.
  • Integrated and corrected all social media links to HTTPS format, improving consistency and authority signals.

Difficulties We Faced

  • Repeated Google verification failures required persistent communication and manual support escalation.
  • Crawl budget recovery was slow due to previous no-index errors and preloader issues.
  • Shopify’s limitations required creative fixes for custom SEO implementations.

How It Helps Others

This case demonstrates how even a celebrity-backed startup can struggle with visibility if technical SEO and verification are mishandled early on.
Our work with Exelmoto proves that:

  • Strategic SEO and local optimization can recover a damaged domain reputation.
  • Proper technical fixes can dramatically improve load speed and authority.
  • Consistent citations and schema integration can help new brands rank faster in competitive markets.

Conclusion

Through a mix of technical precision, SEO expertise, and persistent communication with Google, DM Yarana successfully built a strong and sustainable online foundation for Exelmoto.

Today, Exelmoto stands as a credible, verified, and fast-performing e-bike brand visible across search, maps, and media.
